Learn More About UFSMA
UTAH FLOODPLAIN AND STORMWATER MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (UFSMA)
The Utah Floodplain and Stormwater Management Association (UFSMA) began as the State Floodplain Management Association in 1993. It started as a small group of State and local floodplain managers who shared common interests in floodplains, environment protection, the National Flood Insurance Program and floodplain mapping. This group met quarterly and held its first annual conference in Spring of 1994.
As the size of this group grew and met there were many discussions regarding stormwater laws and regulations. Floodplains and stormwater are hydrologically connected but managed separately under environmental laws. The Association recognized the intersection between stormwater and floodplain management and added stormwater into their name, officially becoming the Utah Floodplain and Stormwater Management Association. The UFSMA was granted Chapter status by the national organization, Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM).
The UFSMA is over 100 members strong and we have developed a great community for sharing and networking. Membership includes those from local towns, cities, counties, professional engineers, consultants, state government and federal partners. We know each other by name and can call on each other when needed.
